I have a serious love for Thanksgiving. I mean really, what's better than actually being allowed to binge yourself like crazy on food? Perfect excuse to make all of those foods I love dearly but can't really justify. (Except turkey. I don't like turkey) But I also live far away from family and my wife works in retail. Which combines to mean we don't go home for family Thanksgiving, instead we find lots of other orphan types and cook food and make merry. I sort of love our tradition.
This year it looks like it will be the me, Wifey and a friend for sure. On the maybe list we have another friend, my brother and another friend (and her 3 kids) On the maybe but probably not list we have my coworker and her husband. Oh! and our 3 dogs... and 2 more... maybe 3. I love Thanksgiving. The chaos, the food, the smells. Even the dishes (it satisfies my Type A side :) )
So far our menu includes:
Prime Rib (with red wine demi glace, creamy horseradish and pan gravy)
Roast Chicken
Mashed Potatoes
Cesar Salad
Cranberry Sauce
Brussels Sprouts with copious amounts of bacon
Pink Salad (its a family specialty)
Sauteed Mushrooms (LOVE THEM- I'll eat a pound of them for lunch)
Not sure on the pies yet but there will be homemade whip cream.
And rolls of some sort of course.
Also have to figure out what to do with 3 potential kid types who might be here. From an 18 year old to a 9 year old to a little girl... I've got a PS2 which should work for the 2 boys... for the girl... hopefully she likes crafts? IDK. I'll see if I can get some kids books too.
I am so excited! I need to start making lists!
