2014

2013 was a year of lots of change. Lost my dream job. Did the unemployment thing. Gained 20 pounds. Went to summer camp. Found a big kid job. Lost my first uncle. Surprised my in laws for Christmas. I feel like 2013 was a bit of a plateau year.

In 2014, I want to lose that stupid weight I gained. Make some friends and go out with them like a big kid. Get married. Start the research ball rolling on baby making. Work on finding a post baby place to live (hard when all my family is in Western WA and all hers is in Southern Cal.) Spend more time outside. I want to be more present. Read more. Actually cook/make some of the stuff on Pinterest. I kind of want to have a new years eve party.

So, yup. there ya go.

My day.

Thoughts as I pack for camp...

How to decorate my clipboard is a question that rivals the meaning of life.

Pink duct tape totally counts as labeling.

You think you won't need it, but make a "last minute shit" to buy list (mine includes a watch, stamps and a white shirt)

When one is attending a nut/tree nut free camp suddenly peanut butter becomes like ambrosia.

There's a squirrel up there

and back to elementary school I go...

Observations on day one:
Since when does milk come in bags?
Ketchup will never be ok on pizza.
Sun does not mean warm.

Observations on day two:
Having a buddy always works
2nd graders CANNOT read silently
Never thought recess would be my least favorite part of the day

Observations on day three:
You know you've made it as a duty when kids swarm you
Miracle: 2nd graders excited about spelling
Grading is poopy

Observations on day four:
Whitties really are everywhere
Being a sub sucks
Surprise: Extra Recess!!!

Observations on day five:
FRIDAY!!!!

Could life get anymore mundane?

In laws are coming in a couple weeks. Have a wedding cake to make. And a baby shower cake. And an event for Macys to "cater". Its a LOT.

Unemployed... which sucks. But is handy right now because of all the crap up that'da way.

Deep cleaning the house. Did the craft room yesterday. The hall closet and entry way closet last week. Next up are the office, the guest room and the basement. The goal is to move from rooms we use less often (or in the case of the craft room- needed it the absolute most) After that will be the bedroom and then a deep clean of the living room and kitchen. We will then live on sandwiches until The Arrival.

Huh... should probably do something to the back yard too. Crap.

Today my plan is to do the dishes. Apply for a couple jobs and start the basement.

Small 2 teir offset square smooth buttercream wedding cake. No clue on the baby shower cake.

Need 500 pieces of breakfast foods.

*le sigh*

A Thankful day

I have a serious love for Thanksgiving. I mean really, what's better than actually being allowed to binge yourself like crazy on food? Perfect excuse to make all of those foods I love dearly but can't really justify. (Except turkey. I don't like turkey) But I also live far away from family and my wife works in retail. Which combines to mean we don't go home for family Thanksgiving, instead we find lots of other orphan types and cook food and make merry. I sort of love our tradition.

This year it looks like it will be the me, Wifey and a friend for sure. On the maybe list we have another friend, my brother and another friend (and her 3 kids) On the maybe but probably not list we have my coworker and her husband. Oh! and our 3 dogs... and 2 more... maybe 3. I love Thanksgiving. The chaos, the food, the smells. Even the dishes (it satisfies my Type A side :) )

So far our menu includes:
Prime Rib (with red wine demi glace, creamy horseradish and pan gravy)
Roast Chicken
Mashed Potatoes
Cesar Salad
Cranberry Sauce
Brussels Sprouts with copious amounts of bacon
Pink Salad (its a family specialty)
Sauteed Mushrooms (LOVE THEM- I'll eat a pound of them for lunch)

Not sure on the pies yet but there will be homemade whip cream.
And rolls of some sort of course.

Also have to figure out what to do with 3 potential kid types who might be here. From an 18 year old to a 9 year old to a little girl... I've got a PS2 which should work for the 2 boys... for the girl... hopefully she likes crafts? IDK. I'll see if I can get some kids books too.

I am so excited! I need to start making lists!

An almost sort of day...

I was supposed to go to the dentist today.
I was supposed to have 3 filings done.
I was supposed to spend the rest of my day mouthing soft foods...

I had a lot if supposed tos today. Instead... I freaked the f out. not my worst freak or ever (I've had some doozies) but well on its way. I'm sitting there and they stick the numbing stuff in my mouth and I'm doing pretty ok. Not excited by any means but doing some deep breathing, listening to a Harry Potter audio book and some white noise in the background for good measure. Then they lay me back and ask me to open my mouth to put in a piece of cotton and I take a couple deep breaths and... I can't do it.i just can't bear to open my mouth. Even more, my mouth now clinches close and I can feel a look of utter abject horror etch itself onto my face and tears start to seep out my scrunched closed eyes.

So... They let me cry for a little while and then sat me up and got me the heck out of the chair and on my way. I think they were trying to limit the amount of bad feelings I had associated with the office. Oh and now I have a prescription for helicon. Yay Benzos!

A bad sort of day...

We have had a horrible day here in Chez Mahoney.

4th Dog, the one we dog sit and the Autistic Wonder jumped a fence and most likely killed our neighbors cat. Awesome. 4th Dog has been put down, this wasn't his first offense and its likely he continued the attack even after they had chased the Autistic Wonder off. Taquito is distraught to say the least. The vet bill is $2,000... actually, that's just the estimate. Oh! And when I got up to answer the door the dogs freaked and one of them jumped on my laptop and ripped off 2 of my keys. Luckily they aren't ones I use often. Oh! And my ankle hurts... a lot.

But man it feels good to write again.
